Acute injury / Pain

Acute:
The word “acute” with respect to injury, means from the time the injury is first sustained, to the point whereby pain has settled, and has a lower chance of aggravation or re injury. In the acute care at WILL PHYSIOTHERAPY, we instil in our patients through careful education knowing what you have done, how the injury occurs, what are you likely to experience/feel, how long your recovery is likely to be, what are the ways you can best manage or reduce your pain/symptoms at home and how to prevent this into the future.

Dry needling / Acupuncture

Dry Needling:

Dry Needling is used predominantly to target trigger points and overactive muscles to achieve a relaxation and reduction of symptoms.

Acupuncture:

Acupuncture has originated from eastern philosophies and has taken many forms developed over time. At WILL PHYSIOTHERAPY we use acupuncture combined with dry needling to deliver a more conventional technique based on western science. Acupuncture can offer excellent pain relief in all areas of the body and can be used as an adjunct to more traditional physiotherapy practice

Kinesiology Taping

Kinesiology tape is a thin, stretchy, elastic cotton strip with an acrylic adhesive. Therapeutic kinesiology tape that can benefit a wide variety of musculoskeletal and sports injuries, plus inflammatory conditions.

Kinesiology tape is almost identical to human skin in both thickness and elasticity, which allows kinesiology tape to be worn without binding, constricting or restriction of your movement.

Kinesiology tape is used for treating athletic injuries and a variety of physical disorders. For the first decade after its introduction, practitioners in Japan were the main users of the therapeutic kinesiology tape. By 1988, the tape had been adopted by Japanese Olympic and professional athletes before spreading across the world.

You would have noticed that more and more professional athletes use kinesiology taping to improve their sporting performance, prevent injury and allow them to return to sport quicker.

Rehabilitation

The Rehabilitation phase of an injury or condition is the time whereby most of the patient’s acute symptoms, such as pain, has reduced or at least settled. Practitioners at WILL PHYSIOTHERAPY pride themselves on providing patients with the most comprehensive of rehabilitation programs. Every program we provide is individualised, progressive when able and takes into consideration any other health conditions our patients may have, such as hypertension, cardiac issues, etc. We also educate our patients that rehabilitation does not, and should not, stop when pain or symptoms cease; we strive to implement long-term strategies with ALL our patients to ensure the injury or an associated injury does not occur when you return to your leisure, work or sport.
